Melissa's Blocks

Here are my January blocks for Melissa (please ignore threads on picture - I was in a rushrushrush). I had a great time putting these together. It was my first attempt at wonky blocks (hope they aren't too wonky, Melissa) and they were harder than I thought. Not in the sewing sense but in the "what will match and how wonky should this be sense" (does that even make sense?). I loved every minute of it.

In the end, a great time was had by all (well, by me, because 3 boys in the house = no interest whatsoever in my new hobby) and as soon as I finish Melissa's other block for a different Bee we are in, the blocks will be in the post.

I will be sending some of the fabric I included from my stash along so that Melissa can add it (or not) to the back.

Thanks so much, Melissa. This was good fun.

February Fabric and Tute

This is my focus fabric for February and the Modern Cropped Nine-Patch Block....it is meadowsweet by Sandra Henderson for Micheal Miller.

Add to that a little Iota, a little Kona a little Aquarius and a touch of Karen Neuberger....hope you like.

Inspired by Katharine Guerrier, I have chosen the Modern Cropped Nine-Patch block.......the tutorial can be seen on the sidebar of my blog. Fabric going in the post tomorrow (Thursday 1/21).

Cheers-Shelly

Blocks for Melissa

I finished up some blocks for Melissa - and eek!  I just saw on flickr that she meant 12" finished, so 12.5" blocks, but I cut mine to 12".  I have some extra fabric, though... Melissa, would you like me to use that to add some to the blocks to make them 12.5", send the extra fabric back, or make an extra block? (I think there is enough for a whole 'nother block, and I didn't get to use my the shoe fabric yet.)

These were alot of fun. I got a little carried away with adding my own fabrics and adding maybe a little too many pieces. Oh, well!

For Melissa

Get ready for a belly laugh......I was very intrigued by the repurposed fabric Melissa provided. On further investigation I came to realize that it was the coveted Munki fabric from Heather Ross.
I must be living under a rock because I was shocked to find out that women all over the world were cutting up their $94 pajamas and swapping with it.......say it isn't so? Come to find out, they were buying these PJ's at TJMaxx and Marshall's for one quarter of the price........did anybody read "Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell.......this is exactly what he was talking about......the creation of a phenom. You can bet I headed to the Maxx (I know a day late and a dollar short).....I didn't find any Munki but you'll have to visit my blog to see what I did find.
Looking forward to the next adventure.

Blocks for Melissa

Here are my blocks for Melissa. Look at how cute those fabrics she sent are! I can't get over the lipstick and high heel shoes! And I had to add a donut and sugar packets! Oh, Heather Ross....how we love you!

I added a couple of my own fabrics to the blocks. For the block on the left I added the orange Fleur De Lis pattern (Heather Bailey, I think). I also added the small pink polka dot in the center. For the block on the right I added the thin pink striped fabric.

Loved making these, Melissa!

Hey, I keep comming to our blog here and I don't find any chit chat going on here! What's the story, we don't have any thing to say? Well, I finished my wonky log cabins and showed them to my husband. He said they reminded him of the movie Beetle Juice! What ever! Anyhow it took my right brain and enveloped me in a few hours in the ZONE. My husband came in and asked me a left brain question and sent me into a canatonic state of confusion. I told him I'm in a creative mode and can't answer that stupid question! It really wasn't a stupid question, just not a right brain one. Anyhow, I have now started this blog, speak up!
